GENERAL SUBMISSIONS (no fee):

ART: We accept all forms of art – painting, drawing, photography, cartoons, etc. (please submit in a digital format only).

POETRY: Poems may be typed single- or double-spaced, in 12 pt. font (no fancy fonts, please). Please include contact information on the first page (name, address, phone, e-mail). You may submit up to five poems.

PROSE: All prose submissions must be double-spaced, in 12 pt. font (no fancy fonts, please). Please include contact information on the first page (name, address, phone, e-mail). You may submit as many stories or essays as you like; however please send your best work. Nonfiction: 3,000 word maximum. Fiction: 6,000 word maximum (flash/short fiction also accepted).

All poetry and prose submissions must be in either .doc or .rtf format

(unable to read other formats). We do not publish translations or previously published material, and pornographic material is not accepted. We do accept simultaneous submissions, but we request that you notify us immediately if your piece

is accepted elsewhere (reed@email.sjsu.edu).

CONTEST SUBMISSIONS ($15 fee for each):

John Steinbeck Award (Fiction)

The Steinbeck Award gives $1,000 to the annual short fiction story winner. Runners up may also be chosen for publication (with the author’s permission). There is a $15 processing fee. Steinbeck submissions are also due by November 1, 2010.

Edwin Markham Prize (Poetry)

The Markham Prize gives $1,000 to the annual poetry winner. Please submit manuscripts of 3-5 poems, and there is a $15 processing fee. Runners up may be published as well (with the author’s permission). Markham submissions are also due by November 1, 2010.
